The Natural Beauty of Interlochen Creates a Memorable Golfing Experience
Golfers who regularly play the courses of the Traverse City area agree that the Interlochen Golf Club is one of the most scenic and lush course in the region. Laid out through a mature forest of large mixed hardwoods and white pines, Interlochen challenges the weekend golfer and lowhandicapper alike with strategically-placed bunkers and water hazards that make the course a club selector’s delight. Precision shotmaking and good course management are at a premium at Interlochen.
A mature course, the velvet greens and lush fairways of Interlochen are immaculately groomed so that the challenge is always fair. Golfers are also treated to the natural abundance of Northern Michigan Wildlife. It is not uncommon to see white-tail deer, wild turkeys and a gathering of wild Canadian geese. A peaceful tributary of the Betsie River winds throughout the course adding its own watery touch of beauty and charm.
The Toughest Holes
The back-to-back 12th and 13th holes are the toughest on the course. The 12th Hole is a 530-yard par five with water located on the right side of the fairway and in front of the green. There’s also a heavy swamp area in the back of the green. The 13th Hole is the number-one handicap hole. It’s a 455-yard par four. It takes a 260-yard drive to set up a good approach shot to the green. It’s heavily wooded on the right side so a golfer must stay left to have a chance at par.
Rated one of the top 100 best value courses in America!

This is the type of course that you will enjoy playing time and time again. Each nine has its own distinct personality. The first, and longer nine, is a little more open, however, there are plenty of pine trees and streams to tantalize the wandering shot. The second nine holes meander through hardwood trees and ponds with significant rolling fairways. This nine is the shorter of the two nines, and accuracy is the key to keeping your score low.
The Briar North boasts of fine conditions and excellent greens. The golf course has undergone a variety of improvements including new tee boxes, new course layout and a whole lot of TLC (Tender Loving Care). The new clubhouse has additional seating for up to 150 people.
Take the time on your next trip to northwest Michigan to find out why more and more golfers are visiting The Briar North. You will find The Briar North conveniently located between two great golf venues — Traverse City (27 miles away on M-37) and Cadillac (a short 15 miles away on M-115).
Hotels and Motels are just a few minutes away. Golfers will find many of these hotels
willing to put golf packages together that will make your stay even more enjoyable, or
call us and we will be happy to assist you in making your golf outing a pleasant one.

Designed by golf great Jack Nicklaus, The Bear is our best-known golf course and described as one of the toughest in the Midwest. You’ll quickly appreciate this beautiful par 72, links-style course featuring Scottish terraced fairways, tiered greens, deep grassy roughs, moguls, mounds, and deep pot bunkers. Lakes, ponds, hardwood forests, streams, and fruit orchards are home to a variety of wildlife that give The Bear its character: golf in the midst of wild nature. Listen to what two of golf’s legends have to say about The Bear:
“The people who play here are going to have a challenge and also have some fun, whatever level of golfer they might be…with rolling land, trees, lakes, streams and flatland, you have a mixture of different features that you rarely see on one course. That’s what makes this course unique. No two holes are similar.” – Jack Nicklaus
“The Bear is one of the great golf courses we play. The thing that makes this course so great is that it can be set up as tough as you want. This course challenges you on every shot. This is the way golf courses should be designed.” – Chi Chi Rodirguez, winner of the 1990 Ameritech Senior Open
The Bear Features
* Bentgrass tees, greens, and fairway
* A challenging 7,078 yd. layout
* Signature hole #13, par-3, 167 yds. from the blue tees, over water
* 4 lakes and 10 holes with water hazards
* Wildlife including deer, ducks, blue herons, swans, and muskrat

A distinctly Northwoods golf experience, Gary Player designed The Wolverine with each nine offering its own challenges. The course weaves through water and wetlands on the front nine, and highland terrain with hardwoods and views of Grand Traverse Bay greet you on the back nine.
Flexibility, versatility, and playability are built into this unique course, which offers four tees on each hole.
“Seeing one of my courses right next to one designed by my long-time colleague Jack Nicklaus, is a real pleasure. I am equally excited to have created a course in such a beautiful part of the world.”
– Gary Player
“Through numerous tees and varying tee angles to the fairway or green, we can provide challenging courses while still making the course playable for the majority of golfers.”
– Gary Player
The Wolverine features:
* Gary Player signature design
* Bentgrass tees, greens, and fairway
* Par 72, 7,043 yd. layout
* Multiple-tee construction to accommodate golfers of all abilities
Other features include strategically placed, easily visible white-sand bunkers; several large lakes; rolling fairways; and gently contoured greens. The Wolverine backs off its wily ways with generous fairways and broad landing areas. Golfers can chip and run from fairways to greens.

Designed by former University of Michigan golf coach William Newcomb, Spruce Run golf course was aptly named to reflect the numerous fir and spruce trees that line its fairways and undulating greens. The course gracefully winds among the rolling hills overlooking East Grand Traverse Bay.
More forgiving than The Bear, Spruce Run will challenge you and offer hours of fun. It’s the perfect course for a relaxing morning or afternoon outdoors, spotting wildlife along the way. Yet it’s also a championship course, and was home to the Michigan Open before the completion of The Bear.
Spruce Run features:
* William Newcomb design
* Par 70, 6,304 yd. layout
* Bentgrass tees, greens, and fairway
* Water hazards on 13 holes
* Wildlife including ducks, geese, blue herons, swans, and muskrat
