Grand Traverse Resort – The Bear

0

Designed by golf great Jack Nicklaus, The Bear is our best-known golf course and described as one of the toughest in the Midwest. You’ll quickly appreciate this beautiful par 72, links-style course featuring Scottish terraced fairways, tiered greens, deep grassy roughs, moguls, mounds, and deep pot bunkers. Lakes, ponds, hardwood forests, streams, and fruit orchards are home to a variety of wildlife that give The Bear its character: golf in the midst of wild nature. Listen to what two of golf’s legends have to say about The Bear:

“The people who play here are going to have a challenge and also have some fun, whatever level of golfer they might be…with rolling land, trees, lakes, streams and flatland, you have a mixture of different features that you rarely see on one course. That’s what makes this course unique. No two holes are similar.” – Jack Nicklaus

“The Bear is one of the great golf courses we play. The thing that makes this course so great is that it can be set up as tough as you want. This course challenges you on every shot. This is the way golf courses should be designed.” – Chi Chi Rodirguez, winner of the 1990 Ameritech Senior Open

The Bear Features

* Bentgrass tees, greens, and fairway
* A challenging 7,078 yd. layout
* Signature hole #13, par-3, 167 yds. from the blue tees, over water
* 4 lakes and 10 holes with water hazards

Flexibility, versatility, and playability are built into this unique course, which offers four tees on each hole.

“Seeing one of my courses right next to one designed by my long-time colleague Jack Nicklaus, is a real pleasure. I am equally excited to have created a course in such a beautiful part of the world.”
– Gary Player

“Through numerous tees and varying tee angles to the fairway or green, we can provide challenging courses while still making the course playable for the majority of golfers.”
– Gary Player

The Wolverine features:

* Gary Player signature design
* Bentgrass tees, greens, and fairway
* Par 72, 7,043 yd. layout

The Leelanau Club at Bahle Farms

0

The Leelanau Club at Bahle Farms features spectacular views of Suttons Bay and Lake Michigan. While varied terrain with hills, woodlands, water, and strategically placed bunkers offer a memorable round of golf. The entry way and two holes (#13 and #16) are situated among working cherry orchards, just ripe for the picking in July while golfers plan their strategy to the green.

The Leelanau Club at Bahle Farms has become a golf course people want to play again and again. Undulating greens, tree-lined fairways, and strategically placed bunkers will put a premium on shot making rather than brute strength. Yet, there are a few holes, like #13, a 440 yard par 4, which will require distance as well as direction

The design makes insightful use of the tremendous natural variety of the land. Players will negotiate a myriad of terrain types including ridges, ravines, gullies, orchards, and highland meadows.

Sugar Loaf – The Old Course

0

Sugar Loaf, steep with golf tradition

Feel the history as you navigate your way around the rolling hills of the golf course. The unique structures and windmills have withstood the test of time and now pave the way for a great Northern Michigan golfing experience.

This classic C.D. Wagstaff designed golf course reflects the architecture of the first half of the 20th Century. Although Wagstaff may not be as well known as a Ross or MacKenzie, “I never hear of clubs wanting to restore their Joe Roseman or C.D. Wagstaff,” Golf Digest course critic, Ron Whitten, once wrote. Put the golf game aside for a moment, enjoy the fragrance of cherry blossoms from nearby orchards, the birds and wildlife that abound from the Northern Michigan surroundings. Or just sit and gaze at the picturesque sunset as it drops behind the Sugar Loaf mountain.
